Some 13 years ago, Brian Shimkovitz, Awesome Tapes From Africa label founder, came across a cassette copy of Obaa Sima while travelling Ghana and his love for Ata Kak’s music lead to the foundation of the ATFA blog and the commencement of a long running effort to track down the Ghanaian musician.
After many years of searching and many months of preparation, Ata Kak’s Obaa Sima, finally comes out on LP and CD. Ata Kak is very excited that everyone is into his music and he has given ATFA his blessing to push forth with this release packed with archival photos and exclusive biographical information. The seven tracks on this LP are a winning combination of highlife, rap, pop, and more with “Daa Nyinaa” sounding like a cover version of William De Vaughn’s “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got”.
